In this thesis I analyse and discuss what impact the 2003 U.S lead intervention in Iraq, had for the cooperation against global terrorism between the European Union and the United States. Six years have passed since the Bush administration decided to go on with the intervention, even though they did not have the necessary UN mandate. Due to unsuccessful argumentation in favour of the intervention by the Bush administration, the world got divided. George W. Bush reference to a ?war on terror?, which passed almost unnoticed by Americans, rang alarm bells in many European countries.

The purpose of this essay was to analyze rhetorical features of Swedish drug advertising and see if drug advertising could be misleading or not. The study was primarily concentrated on how pills were described and that was the overall picture of pills created in commercials. The essay uses theories of narrative, semiotic, argumentation and theories concerning social communication in advertising. In this study fife TV-ads were analyzed: Alvedon, Ibumetin, Treo, Bamyl, and Ipren. The analysis showed that drug advertising has the potential to be misleading mostly because the overall picture of pills which creates in commercials is strong and kind heroes. .

I denna undersökning granskas 31 texter skrivna av elever i årskurs 7 höstterminen 2011. Samtliga texter är skrivna efter samma på förhand fastställda uppgift. Metodmässigt har texterna granskats genom en närläsning strukturerad av ett analysschema.  Undersökningen syftar till att besvara följande frågeställningar:- Vilka är de texttypsmässiga styrkorna och svagheterna i elevtexterna?- Hur ser samspelet ut mellan berättandet och argumenterandet i elevtexterna?- Vilka typer av kunskaper i argumentation visar sig i elevtexterna?Sammanfattningsvis visar studien att eleverna kan föra fram en tes och argument som stödjer tesen. Dock finns det utrymme för förbättring vad det gäller skapandet av disposition.

The purpose of this study is to present arguments concerning a zestful learning for children ages 6-9 in mathematics. Four books in mathematics has specifically been analyzed to investigate what is written concerning a zestful learning. By means of an argumentation analysis within a qualitative text analysis the arguments are put forth. The didactic choices of the chosen literature are analyzed in a subject-matter didactic context. The result implicates a multitude of arguments and didactic choices supporting a zestful learning.

AbstractPurpose/Aim: To study how Piratbyrån argues for a free distribution of information and culture products and to find a possible ideological explanation for their argumentation.Method/Material: I have used a rhetorical analysis to study and describe Piratbyrån´s website, a website that promotes free distribution of information and culture products. I have done so to find out how Piratbyrån argues for a free distribution and to find out what ideological foundation their argumentation is based on.Main results: The main results of the study show that Piratbyrån uses a variety of rhetorical techniques depending on the subject and purpose of the analyzed text. Their main arguments both promote their own thesis and argue against the copyright industry. The main part of the argumentation is based on logical and factual arguments, but parts of it also rely on an emotional appeal to the reader?s heart in order to persuade.

On the 17th of January 2002 the Swedish government presented a bill to theSwedish parliament, proposing ways of strengthening the Swedish democracythrough reforms for increased elements of participatory democracy. A publicreport on the state of the Swedish democracy had been released two years earlierwith similar enthusiasm for participatory democracy. However, the participatoryideals of these two documents were strongly criticised by a group of scholars.The aim of this thesis is to analyze and compare the arguments articulatedbetween the years 2000 and 2002 by the actors mentioned above, and to examinetheir relation to arguments concerning political participation, articulated bythinkers from previous times. By classifying the arguments into different groupsdepending on their content I find that both parties in the Swedish argumentationfocus on the effects of participatory democracy on political equality, on theefficiency of the political decision-making and the quality of the decisions beingmade, and finally on the personal character of the citizens. Among the argumentsarticulated by thinkers from previous times, similarities with the Swedishargumentation can be seen as well as important differences.

One of the main goals of the national curriculum is to encourage children?s personal opinion and support them in development of argumentation ability and communication skills. All this is very important for the children as members of the future society.The purpose of this essay is to investigate how primary school teachers estimate the meaning of the pupil?s argumentation as well as which methods and approaches are assumed by the teachers to be most appropriate for children?s argumentation development. Materialet som ligger till grund för denna uppsats är insamlade debattartiklar och uttalanden där Jan Björklund presenterar sin skolpolitik. Teorierna som denna uppsats grundar sig på är den retoriska pedagogiken utifrån Quintilianus och Giambattista Vico, samt det sociokulturella perspektivet på pedagogik. Dessutom används psykologiteorier om narrativens funktion för människans förståelse.

This essay is about the principles and rules that control persuasive computer games. The term persuasive games mean computer games, video games and other similar artifacts that are produced to shape opinion. The rhetorical scholar Ian Bogost at Georgia Tech claims that this kind of games mainly get their persuasive power by using procedural rhetoric and that games as a medium gives special conditions for procedurality.  By procedural rhetoric Bogost means an argumentation that is based on rules and choices, as opposed to texts, movies and images. (Bogost 2007). Bogost describes these procedures as quite specific for games and claims that they differ qualitatively from ?ordinary? rhetorical arguments even if they just as other arguments work by establishing enthymems.

Since the beginning of the 1990s, Swedish society has gone through a great change. Firstly with the personal computer and then with the internet moving in to everyday life, a new arena for interaction with society evolved. Work, education, doing bank errands and reading or discussing the news, just to name a few, now all take place in the virtual world online. Not to mention social media sites such as twitter, instagram or facebook, the last of which has over half of the Swedish population represented as members.   Companies, corporations, interest groups, political parties and politicians must be aware of the massive impact that a post spread through social media can have.    This thesis will, with the text analyzing tool, argumentation analysis, and on the theoretical platform of political communications theory, analyze three of the most viral Swedish political posts spread over 120 000 times each, to see if there are any combined qualities that point to the fact that there is a formula for getting a post to become a viral success on social media.    The main result showed that of the three posts analyzed, all were built up around a factual thesis, argued for with foremost example arguments, not only appealing to the logical branch of argumentation but also to the ethical, and that they tended to be of high relevance and sustainability. The conclusion must therefore be that these are all qualities that tend to be of relevance for making a political post on social media into a viral success..

Examensarbetet syftar till att beskriva och analysera yngre elevers uttryck av etisk argumentation och logiskt tänkande från studiens inledningsskede till dess slutskede fem veckor senare, samt till att undersöka och beskriva vilken betydelse bild kan ha som uttrycksmedel vid etisk argumentation, för elever i lägre årskurser. Vidare syftar arbetet till att besvara hur ett passande arbetssätt och innehåll skulle kunna utformas för att elever i de lägre årskurserna ska utveckla sin etiska argumentation och sitt logiska tänkande, samt sin förmåga att uttrycka sig inom dessa två områden. Inom centrala delar av studien har jag använt mig av relevanta steg inom kvalitetsredovisning i avsikt att försäkra arbetets validitet och reliabilitet, och datainsamlingen har skett genom observationer, kvalitativa intervjuer, enkäter och gruppsamtal. Arbetet genomfördes i en skolklass, årskurs 2, under fem veckors tid, och resultaten har visat en ansenlig positiv förändring i elevernas uttryck av skriftlig etisk argumentation. Exempelvis har antalet elever som skriftligt har uttryckt argument för ställningstaganden ökat i stor utsträckning.

The purpose of this essay is to describe and analyze the debate surrounding the construction of the 2011 years curriculum of the Swedish schools` religious studies. The debate is concerning whether or not Christianity should have a unique position in the curriculum against other religions. The method is to analyze the arguments by an argument analysis. The purpose is also to analyze the argumentation to see how secularization and pluralism have influenced the debate and the different standpoints. The essays material consists of debate articles from the four largest news sites on the internet.The most common argument for Christianity?s unique position is that Christianity has had an important role in the development of the Swedish society, culture and literature and is therefore important knowledge for understanding the Swedish society.

Societal changes call for constant reinvention of libraries and as part of this reinvention, new light is being shed on the public library?s role as a meeting place. By investigating contemporary debate articles published in Bibliotek i samhälle and Biblioteksbladet, two major Swedish library magazines, this essay aims to categorize and compare different conceptions of the library?s function as a meeting place.

Den här studien har sin utgångspunkt i en debatt om fosterdiagnostik och abort som fördes i Läkartidningen under slutet av 1970-talet. Likväl handlar den om en tid av historiska förändringar, om abort- och steriliseringspolitik i 1900-talets Sverige, och om en argumentation som aldrig förändras. I form av en diskursanalys har jag, utifrån maktteoretiska begrepp undersökt hur man genom skriftlig formulering och argumentation i Läkartidningen strävat efter att upprätthålla maktrelationer och könsmaktsordning i samhället..

Syftet med följande arbete är att presentera det förslag till historiekanon som lades fram i Danmark sommaren 2006, samt den debatt som följde i media, samt att jämföra klimatet för historieämnet i Danmark och Sverige. Svend Sødring Jensens teori om olika historieundervisningsmodeller applicerades på materialet. Genom en kvalitativ analys av de olika texterna, blev resultatet att förespråkarna för en kanon har en objektivistisk och/eller klassisk argumentation, samt att motståndarna har en formal argumentation när de inte anser att en kanon ska finnas, och objektivistisk och/eller klassisk argumentation när de anser att urvalet av kanonpunkter är felaktigt. I jämförelsen med Sverige blir resultatet att Sverige har en mer nyanserad historiesyn, speciellt när det gäller den egna kulturen..
